First Week

Wow! Two days down!

This week has just begun and it's already almost hump day!

We have started talking about S.T.E.A.M. The students should be able to tell you that it stands for "Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math." You may be familiar with S.T.E.M., however including "Art" also incorporates more creativity and imagination!

We have also started discussing place value in math- going from the hundredths place all the way to the hundred billions place! Ask your child to tell you a pattern they see in our number system!

In writing, we have started talking about nouns and adjectives. This helps each student write a better, more descriptive paper.

In reading, we have been learning about genre. We have played a "Mystery Box Challenge" game that helps distinguish between fiction and nonfiction. Today we had a great debate about what genre we should put the "I Spy" books in. What do you think?

****DO NOT FORGET****
This Thursday from 6-7 is Open House night. We will meet with all the parents of fourth grade to go over what to expect from this fourth grade year! We can't wait to see all of you there!

I want to start this post with upcoming dates since the beginning of the school year is so important and busy:
  • Friday, August 21st is meet the teacher night from 5-7 pm.
  • Monday, August 24th is the first day of school!
  • Tuesday, August 25th is open house for kinder and 1st grade families only from 6-7 pm.
  • Thursday, August 27th is Open House for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade families from 6-7 pm.
  • Tuesday, September 1st is open house for 5th grade families from 6-7 pm.
  • September 16th-25th I will be in another country getting married!

This 2015-2016 year is coming up so quickly and I am so excited. Not only am I getting married, but I have so many plans for this school year to make it amazingly awesome! :)

This year, my goal will be to really focus on the collaboration between the students, as well as freedom and creativity to highlight the individualism in each student. I don't know my kids yet, but I already know and truly believe each one is special and unique. The most exciting part to me is getting to know each student as an individual and appreciating them for being their own person.

That being said, please please please come to Open House night on Thursday, August 27th to see our classroom and the memories it holds and is yet to hold.
